ASHLEY GEORGE HAROLD, Private 19188. 7th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action 10th July 1916, aged 23 years. Son of James and Sarah Ann Ashley, of Appleby Lane, Broughton, Lincs. Name commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. Pier and Face 1c.
BARLEY, JOHN, Private. No. 8147, 1st Battalion. Lincolnshire Regt., son of Thomas Barley, of Broughton. Miner, by his wife. Sarah Ann, daughter of Robert Sharp, of Broughton: b. Broughton, 6 April, 1876; educated. There; enlisted in the Lincolnshire Regiment. 24 Nov. 1893; served nine Years in the Regulars and three in the Reserves, and saw service in Khartoum and Atbara (medal with two bars). South Africa (medal), and Soudan (medal with two bars). On mobilisation he was called up, served in France and Flanders, and was wounded in Nov. 1914; afterwards went back to the front and died of wounds received in action at Ypres, 27 Feb 1915. Private Barley married at Leeds, 21 April, 1905. Elizabeth Ann (7. New Broughton, near Brigg. Lincoln), daughter of William Hyke and had one son and five daughters. Thomas William b. 3 Oct. 1905; Gladys Gwendolyn, b. 21 Dec 1900; Evelyn Kitty; b. 16 Oct. 1905; Nancy,b. 19 July, 1910 ; Amy Winifred, b. 10 Aug 1912 ; and Joyce, b. 14 July. 1914. He enlisted in Scunthorpe and resident in Brigg, Lincolnshire. His name is commemorated on BIRR Cross Roads Cemetery. 1B.23
BLANCHARD SIDNEY IRESON, Private 25582. 8th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Died of wounds 25th April 1917 aged 19 years. Son of John Ireson and Amelia Blanchard of Haven Road, Goxhill, Lincolnshire. Born in Linwood Enlisted Scunthorpe, resident Brigg. He was noted as a Native of Broughton, Lincolnshire. His name is commemorated Aubigny Communal Cemetery Extension. 11. D.55. On the Broughton Memorial his name is listed as Sidney J. Blanchard.
BOWERS PERCIVAL CONWAY, Private 9664. 2nd Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action 20th February 1915. Son of Arthur Herbert and Ann Bowers of Broughton, Lincolnshire. Broughton born. CHAFER GEORGE WILLIAM, Private 40924. A Coy, 12th Battalion, Norfolk Regiment. Killed in action 11th September 1918, aged 20 years. Son of (the late) Mr. and Mrs Chafer, Hursley House, Broughton, Lincolnshire. Born Broughton and enlisted Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire. His name is commemorated Ploegsteert Memorial. Panel 3.
CHAFER, HERBERT JOHN, Sergt, No. 5342. C Coy, 1st Battn. Lincolnshire Regt. Son of George Chafer, by his wife. Evelina, daughter of G. Houlton; b. Broughton, Near Brigg, co. Lincoln; educated at Broughton; joined the army 19t June. 1899 served through the South African War (Queens Medal with bars), and afterwards in India. On completing his eight years with the Colours in 1907, he joined the reserve and became a dock policeman at Immingham; but on mobilisation re-joined, was promoted to Sergt while at the Front. 1 Oct. 1914, and was reported to have been killed in action, 27 Oct. 1914 while serving with the Expeditionary Force in France. He married at Sheffield 19 April. 1908. Elizabeth W (14 Storm Street, Chippinghouse Road, and Sheffield), daughter of James Candow and had three sons: Leslie James.

LIDGETT JOHN, Son of Maud and Herbert Lidgett of 8 George Street, Broughton. A sailor, John was trained at Dunoon, and was torpedoed and sunk at sea. Invalided out he came back to Broughton and died 11th April 1948, aged 22 years, and was buried in Broughton Cemetery.
